Motegi MotoGP: Shoya Tomizawa Honored

Moto2 rider Shoya Tomizawa was honored after the race at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit, which hosted Round 14 of the 2010 MotoGP Championship on Sunday.
The parents of the Japanese rider, who died during a wreck at the Misano Grand Prix Sept. 5, received a plaque from FIM President Vito Ippolito. On the plaque was Tomizawa's number 48, which was retired from the MotoGP Championship in honor of the 19-year-old rider's memory.
MotoGP says Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta then handed over a book containing the many messages of support sent by MotoGP fans to the family, friends and Technomag-CIP team of Shoya - members of which were also on the podium - in the aftermath of his tragic death.
MotoGP says Olivier Metraux was also at the ceremony to present Shoya's parents with the Michel Metraux Trophy, which was awarded posthumously following a unanimous vote by his fellow Moto2 riders. A special tribute video then recalled Shoya's best moments from his two full seasons in the World Championship.
Tomizawa had made his career mark at the inaugural 2010 FIM Moto2 Grand Prix, as the new 600cc four-stroke racebikes had replaced the traditional 250cc class.
